Steve Taylor and Pete Burns have been practicing law together since 1981. In 1987 they decided to form their own firm and created Burns and Taylor, L.L.C., opening the doors at the current North Main Street location in Sikeston, Missouri.

Kim Heckemeyer joined the firm in 2000 and Boyd Green joined the firm in 2002. In 2004, the firm changed its name to Burns, Taylor, Heckemeyer & Green L.L.C. In February 2006, the firm expanded by opening a satellite office in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Matt Edwards joined the firm in 2008 and currently practices in the Cape Girardeau office.
